ONLINE Vote for Food 2026 Campaign Launch: Every Victorian Deserves Good Food

12:00pm - 1:00pm · Online,

Speak for 2-3 minutes after existing speakers Vote for Food 2026 Campaign Launch: Every Victorian Deserves Good Food Our event will be held on Zoom. You will receive the link via email prior to the event. Hey @FirstName Thanks for registering for Vote for Food 2026 Campaign Launch: Every Victorian Deserves Good Food. To join, follow the zoom link and don't forget to save it in your calendar! Looking forward to seeing you there, From the Sustain team. Notes for the online speaking slot: Thank you Nick, and thank you to everyone joining today.I’m pleased to support the Vote for Food priorities. These priorities matter to me because they go to the heart of fairness and long-term thinking.Access to healthy, affordable, sustainably produced food is a basic foundation for community wellbeing. In Southern Metro, and in the communities I’ve worked with, rising living costs and climate pressures are already making it harder for families to put good food on the table. The impacts fall heaviest on children, older people and lower-income households, that is neither fair nor sustainable. My background in education equity has shown me that health, learning and opportunity are deeply connected. You can’t give every young person a fair start if they’re coming to school hungry or if their families are under constant pressure to afford nutritious food.As someone who has campaigned on climate action, I also know that how we grow and value food is central to a more resilient future for Victoria. If elected to the Legislative Council, I would seek to be a consistent, independent voice that keeps these issues on the agenda.I would work to ensure food security, healthy food access and sustainable food systems are treated as core priorities — not afterthoughts. That means scrutinising legislation and budgets through a fairness and long-term lens, supporting evidence-based approaches, and making sure community voices from Southern Metro are heard.I would collaborate with community organisations, experts and parliamentarians of goodwill who are serious about practical progress. The upper house has a particular responsibility to think beyond short-term cycles and protect the interests of future generations.Advancing the Vote for Food priorities is one important way of doing exactly that.Thank you again for the opportunity to speak today.
